Why patients switch
You don't need a reason to justify leaving.
But if it helps to know you're not alone — these are the things patients most often describe when they call to transfer.
Different provider every visit
Having to re-explain your history each time. No continuity. No relationship.
Treated like a number
Rushed visits, dismissive tone, the sense that you're being managed rather than cared for.
Arbitrary rules
Counseling requirements, drug testing conditions, or tapering pressure that feels disconnected from your actual situation.
Insurance stopped covering it
Your plan changed, prior auth was denied, or you lost coverage. You need a self-pay option.
Provider closed or left
Your current practice shut down, your doctor retired, or the practice stopped prescribing buprenorphine.
Cost
Your current provider's fees went up, insurance copays changed, or the total cost became unmanageable.
How it works
Simple. No gap in your medication.
Transferring your care does not require your previous provider's permission or cooperation. You do not need to notify them in advance. You do not need records sent over before your first visit — though we will review your medication history with you during the visit.
Call or text to book
Tell us you're transferring from another provider. Same-day appointments are often available.
Brief evaluation
Your physician reviews your current dose, how long you've been on buprenorphine, and how you're doing. For stable transfer patients this is typically shorter than a new patient visit.
Prescription sent same day
Your prescription is sent to the pharmacy of your choice. If your previous prescription is still active at the pharmacy, your physician will coordinate the transition so there's no overlap or gap.
Ongoing care
Same physician, every visit. Monthly once stable. No mandatory counseling, no arbitrary tapering.
What we don't do
A few things worth knowing.
We don't require counseling as a condition of your prescription
Psychosocial support is always available and offered. It is never required as a condition of receiving medication.
We don't set arbitrary time limits on treatment
Buprenorphine is continued for as long as it is clinically appropriate. We don't pressure patients to taper on a schedule that doesn't fit their life.
We don't rotate providers
You see the same physician every visit. No catching someone up on your story. No starting over.
Common questions
Things transfer patients ask.
Do I need to tell my current provider I'm leaving?
No. You are free to change providers at any time. You do not need their permission, and you do not need to notify them before your visit with us.
Will there be a gap in my medication?
We work to avoid any gap. If you have remaining medication from your previous prescription, your physician will time the new prescription accordingly.
Do I need to send records over first?
No. Your physician will go over your history with you during the visit. Records can be requested later if needed.
Will my dose change?
Not automatically. Your physician will review your current dose and discuss whether any adjustment makes sense for your situation. If you're stable, stability is the goal.
What does it cost?
$200 a month for most patients. No insurance required.
